Mon, December 1, 2003 - 6:53 PMHey Matthew,
thanks for that post. Ive been looking for some new material to listen to. One of my favorite things in the world is getting turned on to something great that i wasnt already familiar with. Plus sometimes we can be in a bubble and not get exposed to the great new stuff..... The only one ive heard from your list is hrvatski, so im excited to go get some of these and spend some time with em! -

Tue, December 2, 2003 - 11:25 AMHello!!
Hrvatski rocks - he played just a couple weeks ago in Santa Monica and unfortunately, I missed it. I've been trying to find more new music lately but I've ended up just buying a lot of Smiths albums.
If you want, drop me a msg on IM and I can send you some mp3's of this stuff so you can check it out beforehand - my AIM handle is destladB.

Fri, January 2, 2004 - 10:06 AMHi,
Don't know if you know him but Schneider TM makes some pretty good electronic music. In particular he does a cover of The Smiths "There is a light which never goes out" called "The Light 3000" (you can download from his website www.schneidertm.com).
I'm also really fond of Cabaret Voltaire, Ladytron, Aphex Twin, Chicks on Speed, Sabres of Paradise, Jeans Team (semi-electronic), Playgroup, Akufen and Adult. -

Re: thanks for the post!
Fri, January 2, 2004 - 1:18 PMI'm a big Schneider TM fan and you're right, his version of "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" is wonderful. I might also mention that his album "Zoomer" is great too if you're into electro-pop or whatever you want to call it. "Zoomer" is different than his first album "Moist" which is much more along the lines of German techno. None the less I'm a big fan of "Moist" too and you can often times find it in the bargain bins at your local CD shop. I highly recommend picking them both up.

Re: thanks for the post!
Sat, January 3, 2004 - 9:34 AMThere's a fantastic compilation with Schneider TM on it (he does a remix) called Wir. I'd recommend that to anyone interested in finding out and hopefully folks can find it (it came out in 2k.)
Here's a link to the info at the station:
zk.stanford.edu/index.php3
My favorite track on it is probably Popacid's "I am not in Disko". It extensively samples "I'm not in love."

Re: Best Electronic Music
Thu, December 11, 2003 - 11:51 PMAphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works volume two (but NOT one)
Autechre - Tri Repeatae
Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children (but anything by them is wonderful)
Bola - Soup
Future Sounds of London - Dead Cities
Orbital - InSides
Arovane - Atol Scrap
Wauvenfold - 3Fold (can't get this one out of my car stereo lately)
and since 11 just mentioned some trip hop, I'd like to include:
DJ Shadow - Entroducing
DJ Krush - Meiso
Riz Maslens' brilliant dark trip hop/abstract classic
15 Levels of Magnification (under the moniker Neotropic)
and I hope it's not too wierd to mention
, but I honestly am really pleased with my first CD
of abstract downtempo electronica, the eponymous,
Loop.pooL
Is that too self referential? I hope not.

Re: Best Electronic Music
Fri, December 12, 2003 - 8:54 AMOne of my all time favorite electronic artists would have to be Mouse on Mars. I have a lot of respect for this German duo who create a lot if not all of their own source material and have created their own distinct sound. One of my favorite albums which at times can be very dubbie and even lean toward ambient would have to be "Instrumentals". It's kind of funny because about 90% of their stuff is instrumental so don't think that you're getting something different here. For a good snapshot of their work check out "Rost Pocks: The EP Collection" which is a collection of work from their many EPs as the title suggests.

Sat, January 10, 2004 - 8:32 AMSeeing Eno in your list there, I thought I should really mention the excellent (and fairly electronic) "My life in the bush of ghosts" by Brian Eno and David Byrne. It's a fascinating album.

Re: Best Electronic Music
Tue, January 20, 2004 - 7:24 PMGlad to see you mention Bonobo, Albert. I love that CD.
Do they have more than one release out, to your knowledge?
I also have some similarities with Mathew Herbert from what several people have told me (although I'm not really familiar with his stuff) because I use a lot of found acoustic sounds in my compositions.
You might enjoy the live CD that I put out last year called
Translucent Dayglo Lime Green Plastic where I play about 45 different found and invented instruments on 22 live cuts culled from about 50 solo concerts in the last 3 years.
There are some free mp3s at my site if you want to check it out. www.looppool.info -

Thu, January 22, 2004 - 10:22 AMwww.bonobomusic.com/bonobo/releases.php
Two complete albums (Animal Magic and Dial M for Monkey), a remix album and a bunch of EPs and singles. It's brilliant stuff, have used it often in my late night downtempo mixes.
Herbert has a manifesto on his performed/composed music. Check out www.magicandaccident.com/mh/Ma...fo.htm ... really offbeat. I doubt it makes his music better, but that's for everyone to decide.
Your sound project sounds quite different and very interesting. I'll check it out this afternoon. -

Thu, January 22, 2004 - 10:32 AMIf anybody is looking for a great new record check out M83. I have heard bits and pieces of it and it is brilliant. Such great texture and throbbing beauty. Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts is the title of the record. -

Re: Best Electronic Music
Sat, May 22, 2004 - 11:31 AMits nice to see so many people listing "downtempo" albums as best electronic music - even as i flip through my massive cd/record collection, its the downtempo albums that often strike me as the most innovative of the electronic ones. Kruder and Dorfmeister and all of their manifestations are consistently incredible - does anyone know what they have going on since the last tosca album?
Bonobo is indeed next level shit. and although i feel ninja tune is a little more spotty than it used to, its still a great label who has been putting out incredible downtempo/acid jazz for years.
i'm actually rockin a couple of tracks off of the verve remixed cd that came out last year - i'm really feeling that mixture of old and new, analoge soulfull vocals and tight produced beats. anybody have suggestions for music that falls into that category? -
